Monitor the status of labs for multiple patients, view orders and results, and manage lab tasks—all within one PracticeStudio folder.

Lab Management Interface

The Lab Management function within PracticeStudio X11 centralizes the information relating to labs for all patients and uses the Smart Messaging system to provide reminders and assign lab tasks to different members of a clinic staff.

  • View all lab-related items (orders, results, tasks, etc.) from a single folder within PracticeStudio:
    • Filter labs according to their status: view only those awaiting results, only those awaiting review by a provider, only those that have been reviewed and need an appointment to be scheduled, etc.
    • See at a glance which labs are past due; past due labs appear in red, and the amount of time that must pass before a lab becomes past due is user-defined.
    • Select a lab and view both its order and its results.
    • Attach received results to an existing lab order or create a new lab order and attach the results to it.
    • Review all notes associated with a lab: if, for example, several unsuccessful attempts to contact the patient have been made, you can view the note(s) associated with each attempt, listed in nested chronological order.
    • View the status history of any lab, with a timestamp for each status change:
      • See how long the lab was awaiting results,
      • How much time passed before the received results were reviewed,
      • When the results were released to the patient, etc.
    • Review tasks to be performed on any lab and complete tasks either within the Lab Management folder or from the Inbox of any user who subscribes to that message type.
    • View all lab items, both open and closed, for a single patient.
    • View any lab-related message sent to any user or group, regardless of status.
  • Set up message subscriptions:
    • Automatically assign each step of the lab process (from receiving and scanning results, to reviewing the results, to informing patients of the results) to an appropriate member of your clinic staff.
    • Escalate message subscriptions in order to prevent individual lab results from slipping through the cracks:
      • Generate a message immediately for certain users, and
      • If the task has not been completed after a specified amount of time has passed, generate an additional message for different users.
  • Set security privileges for accessing lab tracking and for accessing lab results themselves, on a role or individual basis.

Electronic Interface to Lab Organizations

  • Send lab orders electronically to labs (including local labs).
  • Receive corresponding lab results electronically from bidirectional labs—and PracticeStudio will automatically update the appropriate patient chart.
  • Post discrete analyte information in the patient's chart for reporting and graphing purposes, eliminating manual entry of the lab order and lab results while providing the best access to both provider and patient.

Seamless Integration with Other Areas of PracticeStudio

  • Patient Media
    • Scan or import lab results into Patient Media and view them in the Lab Management folder without having to navigate back to Patient Media.
  • Chart Posting
    • View alerts that certain patients have lab results that need to be reviewed.
    • Click on a link on the Chart Posting home page that opens a window containing a list of all open labs for the patient, as well as the tasks associated with those labs.
    • From the window in Chart Posting, view the lab results and/or close the lab without navigating to the Lab Management folder.
  • Provider Dashboard
    • View a bar graph that shows the number of outstanding labs: those waiting for results, those waiting to be reviewed, those needing an appointment to be scheduled, etc.
    • Click on More Details to access the Lab Management folder.
